Designing a
Web Site that is
Search Engine Friendly
Most successful business online all have this one thing in
common - Making search engine optimization work for their
sites.
The first step to making your site and business SEO
friendly is to make the search engines want to come to
your web site.
Web crawlers are computer programs that the search engines
use to collect data and index information from the websites.
This information is used to determine the ranking of a web
pages.
One thing that most certainly will hinder the
efforts of a Web Crawler is the use of Frames.
Most search engines have crawlers that can't penetrate the
frames, if they can't get into a web page to read it then that
web page remains unindexed and unranked. Before submitting
your website to a search engine do some research and find out
if they have a crawler that is incapable of penetrating any
frames.
Once you have finished your website it is time to start
submitting your website to search engines. Some webmasters like
to use an automated search engine submission service. If you
decide to go with the submission service you should be aware
that there maybe a fee involved.
Other webmasters like to avoid big fees by submitting their
website to individual search engine on their own.
Once your web page is submitted to a search engine you need
to sit down and design a crawler page. A crawler page is a web
page that contains nothing else expect links to every single
page of your website, Use the title of each page as the as the
link text. This will also give you some extra keywords that
will help improve the ranking the crawlers assign to your
website. Think of the crawler page as a site map to the rest of
your website.
If you design your site in a program like XSitePro,
then your site map is automatically created for
you.
Don't panic if your web pages don't instantly appear to be
indexed. There are a lot of websites and web pages to be
crawled and it may take from a few days to a few weeks to get
your entire site indexed.
